You Can Help!

Boxerstock Music Festival with DogsBoxerstock is our biggest annual fundraiser, so it's very important to the success of ABR to have a large turnout for it. Your participation is very important to us!! In addition to joining us at the event, there are a variety of ways you can help promote the event. We have a media page with small flyers that you can hand out, posters you can hang up, a facebook event you can share it on your page, you can forward this newsletter to your friends, and you can encourage groups of 10 friends to come enjoy a day at the park at a 10% discount for pre-purchased tickets. We have some amazing talent on our stage this year, so gather some friends to come enjoy the day - with or without your dogs!

Meet Sophia

Hello there - I understand you may be looking for a wonderful Boxer, so let me tell you a little about myself. My foster Dad came to my rescue and picked me up just in the nick of time from animal control. I was so malnourished and sickly that the shelter felt no one would want me - I had given up on me too. Because I would not eat or drink, my foster parents fed me with a syringe to keep me hanging on. With all of this good food, a nice warm pillow to sleep on and all the love I could ever want, all of a sudden I decided I wanted to live. My foster Mom says I'm one of the sweetest Boxers she has ever met and something about how I do my business outside and don't even need a leash in the front yard because I totally want to hang with my people. When I'm through with my medication for this nasty cough and cold I've got, I will be spayed, so it may be a few weeks before I will be ready to move to my forever home. If you are looking for a sweet and petite little Boxer girl who gets along with humans and dogs alike, please mention Sophia on your application.

Quick Training Tip

Jewel the BoxerFrom K-9 Coach
Stop feeding your dog out of a dog bowl! That's right, use that food to work your dog both mentally and physically.
1) Purchase a Wobbler from Kong and watch as your dog spends an hour or so batting it around to get his dinner out. Not only will his tummy get full, he will get extra mental and physical exercise.
2) You can also feed your dog their meal as you ask for commands. For example, Buzz, sit! Good boy, here is some of your dinner. Ok, Buzz stay! Here is more of your dinner, etc.
3) Use the food for hide and seek. Hide small piles of your dog's food around the yard and then let them outside to explore and find their food. Dogs are natural hunters and love to "hunt" their kibble.

Feeding your dog is not just something to toss in their bowl! These three tips will help ease anxiety, get your dog more exercise and most importantly, make your boxer happy!

Foster Homes Needed

Foster Dog

ABR is always in need of new foster homes for our rescued boxers.  If you have ever considered fostering as a possibility, please take the time and sign up now.  Fostering is a great experience, giving our volunteers the opportunity to help save a needy boxer, and to help provide nice boxer pets for folks who love the breed.  Our foster parents find it very satisfying and rewarding.  While a few of our rescues have had health issues that required long-term foster care, most of our rescues are in foster care only three to six weeks before being placed into their forever homes.

As always, thanks for your interest in Atlanta Boxer Rescue.
