BoxerStock is Almost Here!

It's hard to believe, but there are less than three weeks left until we present the first annual BoxerStock music festival. On September 27th, the ParkGrounds Coffee Shop in Reynoldstown will be rockin’ and rollin’ from 12:00pm to 10:00pm. Tickets are $20.00 for an all-day admission and one free raffle ticket, and can be purchased online at www.atlantaboxerrescue.org. Bring your favorite pooch along to play in Parkgrounds’ dog park and enjoy live music provided by our talented lineup of musicians including Nashville recording artists Natalie Tidwell and Jessica Campbell, and Atlanta favorites Caroline Aiken and Trances Arc, just to name a few. Raffle prizes will be given away throughout the day, and additional raffle tickets can be purchased during the event. For a listing of our entire line up of musicians or directions to the event, please visit our website.

Get Your BoxerStock Tie-dyed T-Shirts

To celebrate our BoxerStock event, our talented ABR volunteers have created a groovy commemorative tie-dyed T-shirt. However, the order for the shirts has to go to the printer at the end of this week. That means if you want one, please go ahead and order it now. It has the BoxerStock logo on the front and a list of all of the performers on the back. Unfortunately, we won't be able to have many extras on hand to sell during the event, so pre-ordering is the only surefire way to get one in your size. Visit the ABR Store to get yours.

Our Pound Puppy, Hero

Most of our rescues come to us with a name. A few weeks ago, we rescued a sweet boy who wandered the streets without a name. The shelter that found him didn’t have room for him, and didn’t care to give him a name. So we decided to do something a little different – give YOU the chance to pick a fitting name for him! ABR supporters submitted their favorite puppy name in exchange for a small donation. Last Sunday, Simba (a loyal ABR volunteer Boxer) graciously selected the name “Hero” out of all of the submissions. To see Simba in action, go here. Thanks to all of you for your donations and name suggestions. They were all great names. And lucky for us (and for Hero), we have received several applications for him. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a Boxer waiting for your love and care. Go to our Available Boxers page and take a look at some of our other rescues who are available. And be sure to complete your adoption application online while you’re there!

Meet Hogan

Our newest foster-home resident is Hogan, a 1-year-old brindle boy who was saved by ABR from a notorious high-kill shelter. Although he has tested positive for heartworm, we are taking great care of him and look forward to making him available for you to adopt. He is a great dog who has been very grateful for the love and attention he has received so far, and he looks forward to sharing that love with his forever home. You can go to our website to read more about Hogan and the other Boxers who are currently in our infirmary.

It Takes a Village to Save a Boxer

As you can see from the articles above, we have a lot going on here at Atlanta Boxer Rescue. And to be sure, we couldn’t get ANY of it done if it weren’t for all of the great help we get from our volunteers. But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t use a few more extra hands. And with all the jobs we need to get done, you don’t even have to be a dog expert to help! In addition to transport and adoption volunteers, we also could use your help with fundraising, publicity, event planning and staffing, and much more. All it takes is a quick click to complete an application. Thanks so much - together, we can help save Boxer lives!

A Boxer's Wishlist

As with any non-profit organization, Atlanta Boxer Rescue relies on donations to keep the doors open. As much as it helps to receive a cash donation, did you know that there are lots of other things that you can do to help us? Attending our events is a great way to have fun and show your support. We are always in need of dog-care items like leashes, collars, pet food, towels and blankets, pet beds, toys, and medication. And we would love to consider donations of services such as veterinary services, printing, publicity, and more. Restaurant gift cards, gift baskets, coupons for services, food baskets, and other products make great prizes for raffles at our events or silent auctions for fundraising. Finally, we are always open to creative ways to partner with local businesses to co-market Atlanta Boxer Rescue. Whether it is hosting an ABR fundraising event, providing a donation in exchange for exposure at an ABR event, allowing ABR to promote your business in exchange for a donation, or something more, we would be more than willing to discuss how we can work together to continue to rescue and save Boxers in Atlanta. Please contact us if you can help in any way.

ABR Online

The Atlanta Boxer Rescue website is a great way to keep informed about all of the fun and entertaining events that we are planning to support our rescue efforts. An even better way is to join one of our other online groups through Meetup.com, Facebook, or MySpace These groups give you an easy way to stay informed about what’s coming up on our calendar, make your reservations, and buy tickets. With the Meetup group, you can even receive automatic reminders when the date gets near. And, as an added bonus, you can network with other Boxer lovers in Atlanta, share pictures from past events, and post questions if you have them. Click on over and sign up today! And feel free to show your support by using one of our web banners on your own website, blog or myspace page!

Foster Homes and Temporary Fosters Needed

ABR is still looking for some good, quality foster homes. We need both full time fosters and also homes that can take in dogs during weekends, holidays and emergencies. These generally would be 2-4 day stays with you. The more foster homes we have, the more Boxers we can save! If your love of the breed translates to wanting to help save these precious Boxers, then we would love to have you on our team! Opening your home to a deserving Boxer who, for the most part, has not really known what "home" means is an extremely rewarding experience. Fostering could involve training, transporting to the vet, and meeting the potential adopting family, but mostly, it involves loving a Boxer. Some fit right in, but a lot come frightened and need to realize that we are there to help. Through the love of a foster home, our rescues learn manners, but mostly that they are worthy of love and a forever home. If you can provide just that, please go to our website and fill out a foster application. We are excited and look forward to hearing from you!

As always, thanks for your interest in Atlanta Boxer Rescue.
